Grosse Ile/Airport: Airport has won four in a row and nine out of the last ten in this series including last years 41-0 win over the Islanders. The Jets are coming off of a 40-22 loss to SMCC while Grosse Ile is coming off of a win against Flat Rock 24-19. This game will feature arguably the two best running backs in the league along with two of the better quarterbacks.
Grosse Ile’s offense has been quite amazing this year and balanced. The Red Devils can hurt you through the air or on the ground. John Bodner will look to keep Eric Redmond’s defense off balance while trying to keep the Jet offense grounded and off of the field.
Look for Airport to keep the ball on the ground most of the night against Grosse Ile. The Jets became a little too pass happy last week and they won’t make that mistake again. Defensively, Airport has the speed to shut down the GI air attack and also has the linebackers that will make running room scarce for the GI running game.
While Grosse Ile is much improved over last year, this game could get ugly. Airport won’t be in a happy mood and will probably take it out on the Islanders. Grosse Ile may be able to score some points on Airport but I can’t see them stopping the Jets at all. Airport wins 42-21.
Milan/SMCC: This has been a good series since Milan re-entered the league back in 1999. The Falcons own a 6-4 edge over the Big Reds since that time. Most of the games have been close and hard fought and this one should be no different. SMCC dealt Milan a loss last year 28-21 forcing Milan to settle for a league co-championship last year.
Milan enters this game at 5-1 and seems to be improving every week. The Big Reds were primarily a running team early in the season but have been improving on their passing game. Milan has three players capable of running the ball in Chris LaBelle, Joe Dunn and Leo Pittman. Defensively, the Big Reds are big, physical and speedy just like every other Steve Robb coached team.
SMCC is coming off of a huge and somewhat surprising win against Airport. Look for the Falcons to continue their typical running game with five or six backs carrying the ball. Defensively, the Catholics will be physical and speedy. Once again, Jack Giarmo owns the best special teams play in the league courtesy of assistant coach Rob Hogg.
I anticipate this to be a close and hard fought game with two excellent coaches matching wits for what comes down to a championship ball game. Milan needs a win to gain a share of the league lead while SMCC is looking to lay it’s own claim to the title. I think this game could possibly be a low scoring affair by these two teams standards and I look for SMCC to win 20-17.

I thought the poster "GO....54" had meant for it to be viewed.... when he posted it, it was sent to the older post section of this blog. Thus I figured it was not read by many. I thought the post was one of the best on here and depicts what many parents do for their children on a daily basis. The post stood for what was good in HS sports and I thought it should be brought to the forefront. I am sorry if I offended anyone by reposting.
I never intend to offend my goal is only to defend those that take cheap pot shots at my school or the students in it and I will continue to do so.
After the 1st couple of games I could see CC with 5 losses. I now see them beating Milan, by not that close of a game. Milan has played only one team that has a winning record and that was a loss for the Big Reds.
Will the wet weather hurt the "mighty chiefs" passing game tomorrow night? Can Coach Stergalis gets his firts win in the Huron League? Where did the "Mighty Cheifs" guy go?
Those are my deep thoughts this week.
I dont know about Tyler Baker getting any looks for MVP but he does play very very hard every play and can do anything his coaches ask him... he is definatley a very big part of airports success
SMCC does have senior leadership, they are the best players on the team and bests in the league, with howey, lovell and labeau.
Heck with all those backs, the stars of the week will be CC's O-Line.STUDS !!!!! from Collins,Burkart,Wilson,Cardella,Gonyea. Studs and all but one are Jr.s they will make the difference.Tough as nails...No pressure huh boys.Friday Night Stars.
Just to stir things up....CC shuts out Milan.
if you remember back to the 2004 season...GI was expected to get killed by airport just like this year...but GI came into the game with a great mentality and the desire to win and look what hapened...GI shut airport out for the first time in 20 some years. im not saying that this is going to happen again but that year everyone picked the jets to win and the devils had a different idea. anyone can win this game it just comes down to preperation, the mentality that the players have, the plays the coaches call, and the way the players play the game.
thank you for answering bloodynutter, continue speaking your wisdom to all these other people, im also in my 30's so maybe its just people our age have wisdom that everyone else wishes they had
You know it CC better stay fired up and bring the lumber, I belive Giarmo will have them ready. One thing CC can do and better than most is stay focused. They dont overlook anyone. They know this wont be easy and at Milan, that makes it even tougher.Cant wait, weather, turnovers and CC's O-Line will be the difference.Milan will hang tough but by the 4th ,CC wins.Hope its close either way not a blowout.
