On a cold and windy night in Monroe, two Huron league heavyweights battled toe to toe in the first half. (Actually one heavyweight and one welterweight but does the size of the school really matter?) The two teams combined for over 500 yards in offense in the first half as the teams traded haymakers. The 2nd half pace would slow down a bit but SMCC landed enough punches to take a 40-22 TKO.
SMCC opened the scoring quickly by going 73 yards on 4 plays on the opening drive. Airport responded with a drive of their own by going 80 yards on 10 plays to knot the score at 7 a piece.
The Falcons would respond :38 seconds later by covering 56 yards in 2 plays which made the score 13-7 as the extra point was wide left. Once again Airport would respond by going 71 yards in 8 plays and took the lead when the extra point was good 14-13.
SMCC would open the 2nd quarter by striking quickly again. The Falcons covered 73 yards in 4 plays and led 19-14 as the 2-point conversion failed. Airport would respond once again this time with :43 seconds left in the 1st half as the Jets went 64 yards on 9 plays. The 2-point conversion was good and Airport led again 22-19.
The Jets looked like they would go into the half with the lead but Mike Howey returned the ensuing kickoff 60 yards to the Airport 15 yard line. SMCC would punch the ball in with :06 seconds left to take a 26-22 half time lead.
The 3rd quarter started with Airport taking the opening kick of the half and driving 54 yards down to the Falcon 9 yard line. SMCC’s defense would stiffen and Airport turned the ball over on downs.
After the two teams traded punts SMCC would go on a 10 play 55 yard scoring drive that would take 6 minutes off of the clock. After SMCC’s Chris LaBeau plunged in off of the right side the Falcons found themselves leading 33-22 with 6:57 to go in the game.
Airport would be unable to mount a drive and SMCC would take over on the Airport 47 yard line with 4:49 to go in the game. The Falcons would take 8 plays to cover those 47 yards this time scoring with 42 seconds left in the contest making the score SMCC 40 Airport 22.
The victors rushed for 397 yards on 46 carries.Chris LaBeau led the way for SMCC with 146 yards on 19 carries and 3 touchdowns. League MVP candidate T.J. Lovell rushed for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 7 carries. The Falcons did not attempt a pass.
The SMCC defense held Airport to 110 yards in the 2nd half after the Jets had gained 260 yards in the 1st half.
Airport rushed for 305 yards on 47 carries led by Jodeci Mays who carried the ball 26 times for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tyler Pluff added 92 yards on 10 carries. The Falcons held Airport’s quarterback Daniel Jones to 65 yards on 8 of 18 passing.

Well Im here to tell you, recruiting has nothing to do with it when it comes to my son...he was not recruited (Collins ) out of New Boston. My son has been in catholic school since 1st grade. Not that its anyones business, but before his mother passed away over 7 years ago,it was her wishes for her children to finish their education that way.Now our choices where Richard or CC (his mother graduated Richard). My son wresteled for CC AAU program when he was 7/8 and I liked the school and made the choice for him.Now anyone who wants to help pick up the $12,000 tab that it takes my to send my two children there...PLEASE CHIME IN.Thought so...I'm so sick of hearing Recruiting..recruiting...I sacrafice alot to make my wifes wishes come true as well as alot of other parents at CC..so stop making excuses about CC has the cream of the crop...My son has worked harder and has learned more, and will be ready for his next step of education ,then he would have at Huron. He is getting a top notch education and just so happens to be in (in my eyes.. the best program around) .He was handed NOTHING...he works hard and plays hard as well, just as if he had belonged to another school. Hug your kids and your spouse and be glad that you get to watch them play the sport they love. GO CC and God Bless all you young men who make my Fridays the best ever. Nate ,,my son God Bless you..I love you..keep up the hardwork, good luck the rest of the season..and remember MOMS watchin.
and sorry i know it sounds like im arguing with you but its more like im arguing along with you haha sorry
oh instead of reading online stats why dont you go to a game instead? if youve seen airport they have 31 kids...that roster was sent before the season started since then players were either injured and left or just flat out quit...and yes that is only 5 more than poor little flat rock for being such a bigger school we should have at least double them right? thats why the airport fans/players get so angry when you say "oh class A id hope youd do good in a small class B league" so im going to say congrats airport keep working hard with what you got and dont let anyone else bring you down.good luck
Nope. We are a team.
Can you PUHLEEZE let this school size stuff go ? Go on to the Monroe Evening News website, click on high school football, then click on the team rosters and count. Airport has 39 players. SMCC has .. are you ready? 42 players. It doesn't matter how many kids are in the school if they aren't on the team. If anyone should be whining about "small size" it's Flat Rock. They have 26 players on their roster. SHEESH give it a rest! If you want to say SMCC has a good program because they have dedicated players and an excellent coaching staff, say that because at least that's true. Don't be saying untrue things like it's a small Class C school. Yes it is a Class C school in enrollment with a 42 player roster. That's 2 guys short of 2 players at every position. Come on,now!
soo what about milan? no "I" huh?
Stop... The only team in the Huron League that uses "I" is Airport. Cant wait to see them and beat them in the playoffs.
WOW make exuses you lost, let it go!! SMCC is a better team than your beloved airport. You all just were wrong on your prediction of the game saying how smcc would lose by 30. Not one s-t-u-d-e-n-t from smcc was recruited, stop being jelous...it is pathetic
I can't believe you guys are wasting time arguing about where these kids come for. Their is no point to this!!
For Airport supporters. We weren't worried about where these kids came from four weeks out! We just wanted to win. "Stupid". Please quit belittling our team with theses out landish excuses. Our team lost huge and it had nothing to do with this nonesense. and if it did so the heck what! Airport is a great time and we don't need to make excuses. SMCC players did what they had to do on the field too win the game and they did it with style. It's all about the fight in the dog not the size. I'm sure if Airport won we wouldn't even be reading all of this B/S. I got on here to see if anything might be helpful to tell my nephew who plays for Airport. This is B/S. SMCC is a great team and they played their butts off. Give it up where it's due guys! I can only hope Airport players aren't reading this crap.
in response to the post 10-3 at 10:01pm.
yes, here is the entire quote in the Monroe Evening News,
“These guys thought they had 9-0 in the bag,’’ Redmond said. “We’ll see how they handle this.’’ How come he uses words like “They” “These” “Them”??? I thought football was a team sport? I thought a good coach used “We” “Us” “Together”? Coaching lost this game Friday night, not talent, not effort, not heart, not pulling kids from wahtever area, not anything but COACHING, facts are facts…
Nice game SMCC, you deserve your win.
