Week 6 Part II

Huron/Milan: The Big Reds have never lost to Huron. They are a perfect 15-0 against the Chiefs. Last year it looked like the Chiefs had Milan on the ropes going into the 4th quarter but the Big Reds stormed back with a 35-24 win in route to a share of the Huron League title.

Huron is coming off of a loss to their arch rivals in Flat Rock and need to regroup if they are to have any chance at making the playoffs. Last year the Chiefs threw all over Milan and may have to do the same if they plan on pulling off the upset.

Milan is off to a 4-1 start with their only blemish coming at the hands of an excellent Airport team. Milan likes to run the ball but their passing game has been coming along. They must find a way to slow down Huron’s high powered offense.

A week ago I might have picked Huron to win this game and I wouldn’t be surprised if they still did. Milan is the program that Huron would like to become and a win against the Big Reds would help them toward that goal. Milan seems to be getting better every week and they are playing at home. I think this will be a good game but Milan wins 27-24.

Airport/SMCC: This is a matchup of the two teams that I picked to finish 1st and 2nd in the league this year. Neither team has disappointed thus far although the Jets have been much more impressive up to this point. Last years game was a 21-0 shutout and the way Airport is playing the same could possibly happen again. Eric Redmond has turned Airport into a football powerhouse and this may be his best team ever. He will take a 6-7 career record against SMCC into this game. Jack Giarmo took over a great program at SMCC and has continued the storied traditon of the Falcons. He holds a 5-6 record against Airport and Redmond.

Airport started the season off with a win over Bedford and that win gets more impressive each week. The Jets have have rolled over their Huron League schedule thus far and seem poised for a long playoff run. The Jet offense is powered by the best running back in the league in Jodeci Mays and the most efficient quarterback in the league in Daniel Jones. The Airport defense keeps getting better and better and are led by two great linebackers in Drew Nava and Michael Graves

SMCC is coming off a game where they rang up 61 points against Grosse Ile. The Falcons scored every time they touched the ball. The Falcons have had some close calls along the way but they have responded each week with an impressive effort. The SMCC offense has struggled a bit at times this year but they have a stable of running backs that they can give the ball to if needed. The defense has been steady all season and has stepped up almost every time when needed.

All signs headed into Friday’s game point to an Airport victory. The Jets are just that darn good. They have a great back, a great QB, an excellent defense and great team speed. They should be able to snuff out SMCC’s one dimensional offense. SMCC will counter with some great team speed themselves, excellent special teams play, an under-rated QB and an excellent running back in Chris LaBeau. It goes without saying that both teams have excellent coaches. According to my poll, the popular pick looks to be Airport and that makes perfect sense. I think Airport has a great team and a great program but I think the Catholics from Monroe County will have something up their sleeve this week (maybe a prayer or maybe a passing game?). I am going to go against the grain and pick the smallest school in the league over the largest school in the league. Give me SMCC in a hard fought victory over Airport 28-27.

  • Ill answer those questions for you j.w. the answer is there is only 1 person on the team this year that was on that team and that was TJ lovell and yes all the people who were on CCs team last year better get ready for another embarresing game... AIRPORT WINS

  • Quit crying about your school being small. If it's such an issue quit paying to go there. You can't have your cake and eat it to. About "Bishop and the big bad jets" How many kids from CC were on that team that beat them, AND the team this year? 1? How many got shut out by last years Airport team?

    j.w.

  • Bottom line for tomorrows big game between smcc/aiport if smcc can control the ball they win if they cant airport wins just remember what happen to airport the last time they came to navarre field with bishop and the big bad jets that year. smcc will have a surprise for u airport blogers i wounldnt be talking until the game is over with that being said it should be a hard hiting game good luck Falcons the smallest school in the huron league best the biggest.

  • To Milan Player, if Airport lost that means SMCC would be in sole possession of 1st place and you would just get embarrased again by another good team.

  • Howey and Fanslaw were both better QB's than Bicey and they werent recruited either. Just get over the fact CC has a great program and quit whining. If you want to shut up us "pompous" Falcons then just beat us!!! We wont complain or make excuses, we will just tip our hat and congratulate you... atleast I will. Even if Bicey was recruited(I really have no idea)... that is one guy out of hundreds that have donned the Green and Gold. It is one thing to recruit by asking a player to come to your school and quite another to actually pay his tuition. CC doesnt have 2 nickels to rub together so I am pretty sure they didnt fork up the 30k so he could play a varsity football game. We play in a league where everyone is larger than us... that more than makes up for the so called recruiting you say we do. CC also played class B all those years when it was really a class C school. We won the 1991 class B state championship with an enrollement of 400 and played a school with 1000. We dont duck anyone and take on all comers.. from Nouvel to Country Day to Divine Child and so on. I think its time the League comes together and root for eachother. I know I root for Airport or whomever comes out of the league come playoff time. Whoever wins or loses this game Friday I think has a real good shot to get to FF. Good luck to all.

  • to the person that said SMCC never recruited, thats some bull. how about the year u guys went to ford field, how did u guys get bicey as a quarterback. he was prettty good and from my knowledge never went to a catholic school around here??????

  • What is wrong with you people why are you all rooting for SMCC and why do you all want Airport to go down now... Milan Huron Jefferson Riverview Grosse Ile Flat Rock none of you guys have a chance to win the league im sorry but you dont... the league will be won by Airport or SMCC... SMCC has dominated the league for so many years and have ruined so many season... isnt it time for a new team to step up and finally take down this falcon team... your all rooting against airport because they are doing the best... I think its time someone takes downs these falcons and shows them that they arent the only team thats worth something coming out of the huron league and into the playoffs.... Airport is that team to take them down and take them down hard quit with all this you never want the better team to win... AIRPORT 42 SMCC 13 they are good... they have lots and lots of weapons... their defense if you look at scores gets better game after game... and they are coming off a shut out... JETS FLY HIGH ON FRIDAY NIGHTS...

oh and MIGHTY CHEIFS WILL BEAT MILAN

  • Mr Huron League....It wouldn't matter who you picked, somebody isn't goin to like it. You have your reasons, and I have mine. Great game coming up Friday, and it's up for grabs. Who wants it bad enough?

  • I was at the game and not to dog on Cameron at all but the SMCC defensive backs are awful... or they may not be awful but they take 3 read steps and they give receivers so much room ... we will see if airport uses that tomorrow
