Flat Rock came into Friday’s Huron League match up against their arch-rival Huron as an underdog. Huron had the better offense, the bigger players, and the brighter stars. None of that mattered to the Rams. “There are no individuals, we’re a team”, stated the Ram’s Dan Chickeral after Flat Rock’s 38-25 victory over Huron at Marv Middlestat Field in Flat Rock. The Rams seemed motivated to face the high powered Chiefs. “This game means everything, this is a game we circle”, added Chickeral.
Flat Rock used an excellent defensive game plan and a grind it out offense along with some opportunistic plays to win this game. The Rams rushed the ball 51 times for 186 yards while eating away at the clock. The defense hounded Huron QB Andrew Mayrand with a relentless pass rush and forced the Chiefs to turn the ball over 4 times.
Huron opened the scoring in the 1st quarter by taking the opening kickoff 55 yards on 7 plays as it looked like the Chiefs were determined to stop their 3 game skid against the Rams. But Flat Rock would have no part of that as they scored 3 straight touchdowns to end the first quarter. The third touchdown came on a 55 yard interception return.
Huron would respond to open the 2nd quarter, the Chiefs drove 58 yards to the Ram 6 yard line but had to settle for a Zach Richardson 23 yard field goal. Flat Rock would respond quickly as the ensuing kickoff was returned 64 yards to the Chief 6 yard line. The Rams would push it in from there as they entered the break with a 25-10 lead.
The Rams would put the game away in the 3rd quarter. They opened the 2nd half with another excellent kickoff return to the Chief 37 yard line. The Rams then scored on a 44 yard half back pass on a 3 and 17 play to put the home team up 32-10. The Rams would then get the ball back and promptly go 45 yards on 7 plays to push the score to 38-10 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The 4th quarter was largely uneventful as Huron scored twice late in the game to make the final score 38-25.
Eric Zapata scored 3 touchdowns for the Rams as he carried the ball 24 times for 125 yards. Joe Conner, Matt Metz and Chickeral would score the other touchdowns for Flat Rock. The win gives the Rams a 2-2 record in the Huron League and Huron drops to 1-3 in league play.

HLF...your blog and comments/responses are strapped tight. But I have to advise you to respond properly to the "pick GI over us again" comment........
the answer is; OKEDOKE..GI 34, FR 18
hey mr shcultz lets get that basketball blog started
Thanks for asking not to use people's names. That is not right. If you knew coach p. you would know he has no clue what a blog is. Good Game Rams!!
I deserved that but I had to base my pick based on what I had seen.
Did you really expect me to pick Flat Rock over Riverview after their thrashing against SMCC? I did pick a 1 point game in that one.
As for the Huron game. Flat Rock stomped the Chiefs and deserved to win the game. They were opportunistic, had a great game plan and played with heart. That is a great recipe for success.
Please I would ask you next time not to use Coach P's name on here and for that matter nobody else's name. It's not fair to him and his players.
Hey Schultz, good pick on this one, and the riverview one, you kno what? why dont you just pick GI over us again!
Huron Playoffs???.....Seriuosly???
I just keep seeing the Dick Vermeel news conference.....
And don't look too hard in your rear view mirror, but GI has the best passing offense in HL, it's just too bad their defense is a spagetti strainer right now.
Man Pruchnicki's players sure do play hard.
It's to bad huron did'nt show up for the flat rock game after the game against smcc.Huron had a great chance to make a big name for itself if they would have beat flatrock but they must win all 4 games from here on out to make the playoffs
lol mighty chiefs
