Over the years, SMCC has produced many fine athletic families. There seems to be a never ending line of familiar names than have worn the Falcon green and gold. Every year I look at their roster and it is a whose who of Catholic Central fame.
This year is no different but one name stands out to me and that is the name LaBeau. Chris LaBeau is another in a long line of great CC footballers. He follows in the footsteps of his late father, Fred who played at Western Michigan. His uncle Jim played at Holy Cross in Massachusetts. Another uncle, Tom was a Hall of Famer at Dayton. Yet another uncle, Ron led the state of Michigan in rushing and touchdown’s his senior year. He went on to sign with the University of Michigan before an injury his sophomore year in Ann Arbor ended his football career.
I don’t think anyone expects Chris to be the player that his relatives were at CC but I don’t think it is a coincidence that LaBeau was the QB of a Falcon team last year that resembled a JV team yet was only one game away from Ford Field. LaBeau will most likely switch over to running back this year and don’t be surprised if he helps lead his Falcon teammates to a Ford Field appearance.
